Overview

  • Acetobacterium woodii is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, motile, oval-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 39%. Acetobacterium woodii is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Balch1977)

  • This organism has been recovered from marine and freshwater black sediments. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. A possible gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Hydrogen-oxidising, CO2-reducing acetic acid producer. Homoacetogen. Can use CO as an electron donor.
