Overview

  • Aeromonas dhakensis, (aka Aeromonas aquariorum), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. Aeromonas dhakensis is probably a rare gut coloniser. (BeazHidalgo2013; Huys2002; MartinezMurcia2008)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces (diarrhoea - Huys2002) and clinical sources (wound - CCUG). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Can cause opportunistic infections, particularly in immunocompromised people. It's gut microbiome symbiotic status is unknown.
