Overview

  • Alistipes onderdonkii is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 18 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 58%. Alistipes onderdonkii is a common gut coloniser. (Sakamoto2020; Song2006; Kononen2010Bergey)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces and clinical sources (blood, abdominal abscess - CCUG). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). Can cause opportunistic infections, particularly in immunocompromised people. A possible gut commensal.
