Overview

  • Alkaliphilus oremlandii is a Gram-positive, spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. The DNA G+C content is 36.1%. Alkaliphilus oremlandii is unlikely to be a gut coloniser. (Fisher2008)

  • This organism has been recovered from polluted river sediments, USA. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Able to reduce As(V) and thiosulfate (electron acceptors). No growth at or below pH 7.5 suggests it is not a gut coloniser
