Overview

  • Atlantibacter hermannii, (aka Escherichia hermannii), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 6 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 53-58%. Atlantibacter hermannii is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Farmer1985; Hata2016; Brenner1982; Scheutz2005Bergey)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces (CCUG), clinical sources (urine, infection - CCUG) and wastewater treatment. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. Is a rare opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
