Overview

  • Brochothrix thermosphacta, (aka Microbacterium thermosphactum), is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 3 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 38%. Brochothrix thermosphacta is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Sneath2011Bergey; Wade2011Bergey; McLean1953)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Grows poorly at 37C, so unlikely a gut coloniser.
