Overview

  • Caldicoprobacter faecalis, (aka Acetomicrobium faecalis), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped - curved bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 45%. Caldicoprobacter faecalis is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (BouananeDarenfed2015; Winter1987)

  • This organism has been recovered from sewage sludge. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • The minimum temperature for growth is 55C, so unlikely to be a gut coloniser.

  • GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS (BouananeDarenfed2015); (Winter1987);
    Character Response
  • 🧂
  • Salt tolerance:
  • tolerates 0-2% salt; doesn't tolerate 4% salt; Grows optimally with 0-3% salt.
  • pH
  • Acidity tolerance:
  • tolerates pH 5.5; tolerates pH 9; Grows optimally at pH 6.5.
  • 🌡
  • Temperature tolerance:
  • grows at 55-74℃; Grows optimally at 70-73℃.
  • H+
  • Acid from carbohydrates usually produced:
  • arabinose; fructose; galactose; glucose; mannose; rhamnose; ribose; xylose; cellubiose; lactose; maltose; melibiose; sucrose; salicin;

  • SPECIAL FEATURES (Winter1987);
    Character Response
  • Metabolites produced:
  • acetate; lactate; ethanol; CO₂; H₂;
