Overview

  • Capnocytophaga leadbetteri is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, gliding, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 41.3%. Capnocytophaga leadbetteri is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Frandsen2008)

  • This organism has been recovered from the oral cavity. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • All strains cleave human IgA1 in the hinge region.
