Overview

  • Corynebacterium appendicis is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 65.8%. Corynebacterium appendicis is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Yassin2002a; Bernard2012Bergey)

  • This organism has been recovered from an appendix and human faeces. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). It is an opportunistic pathogen. Is a known gut commensal.
