Overview

  • Corynebacterium efficiens is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, club-shaped-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 59-60.2%. Corynebacterium efficiens is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Fudou2002; Bernard2012Bergey)

  • This organism has been recovered from soil and vegetables. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. A possible gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Produces large amounts of L-glutamic acid under aerobic conditions.
