Overview

  • Corynebacterium flavescens, (aka Microbacterium flavum), is a Gram-variable, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, pleiomorph rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 58.3%. Corynebacterium flavescens is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Barksdale1979; Bernard2012Bergey)

  • This organism has been recovered from cheese (CCUG). Has also been detected in human faeces (Bilen2018e). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Could be a possible pathogen in humans, but unknown at this stage. A possible gut commensal.
