Overview


  • Corynebacterium otitidis, (aka Turicella otitidis), is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, diphtheroidal bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 65-72%. Corynebacterium otitidis is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Funke1994a)



  • This organism has been recovered from ear infections. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. Can cause opportunistic infections, particularly in immunocompromised people. A possible gut commensal.
