Overview

  • Cryptobacterium curtum is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 7 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 50-51%. Cryptobacterium curtum is probably a common, although minor, coloniser of the gut. (Nakazawa1999)

  • This organism has been recovered from dental disease and human faeces. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
