Overview

  • Desulfofarcimen acetoxidans, (aka Desulfotomaculum acetoxidans), is a Gram-negative, spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 41.1-41.6%. Desulfofarcimen acetoxidans is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Widdel1977)

  • This organism has been recovered from sulfide-containing water and mud; faeces of higher animals. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Doesn't use sugars, lactate or pyruvate as electron donors.
