Overview

  • Desulfosporosinus youngiae is a Gram-negative, spore-forming, rod-shaped - curved bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 36.6%. Desulfosporosinus youngiae is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Lee2009a)

  • This organism has been recovered from a constructed wetland (acidic), USA. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Fe(III) and arsenate are not electron acceptors and do not support growth
