Overview

  • Desulfurispirillum indicum is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. The DNA G+C content is 56.1%. Desulfurispirillum indicum is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Rauschenbach2011)

  • This organism has been recovered from an estuarine channel, India. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Dissimilatory selenate- and selenite-respiring bacterium isolated from sediments collected in an estuarine channel in Chepauk in Chennai. A low optimum temperature and fastidious dietary requirements suggests it is not a gut coloniser.
