Overview

  • Fucophilus fucoidanolyticus is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, non-motile, coccus bacterium. The DNA G+C content is 52%. Fucophilus fucoidanolyticus is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Sakai2003)

  • This organism has been recovered from a sea cucumber gut. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. A possible gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Digests algal-derived fucoidan compounds (sulfated fucosyl polysaccharides).
