Overview

  • Fusobacterium nucleatum subsp. vincentii is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 26-28%. Fusobacterium nucleatum subsp. vincentii is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Gharbia2010aBergey; Kook2017; Dzink1990)

  • This organism has been recovered from human gut and clinical sources (blood, periodontal pocket - CCUG). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
