Overview

  • Fusobacterium perfoetens is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, oval-shaped bacterium. The DNA G+C content is 28-30%. Fusobacterium perfoetens is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Gharbia2010Bergey; VanAssche1977)

  • This organism has been recovered from an infant with diarrhoea, and piglet faeces. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. A possible gut commensal.
