Overview

  • Globicatella sulfidifaciens is a Gram-variable, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, coccus bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 35-36%. Globicatella sulfidifaciens is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Vandamme2001a)

  • This organism has been recovered from animal wounds. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread (notes: animal pathogen). Could be a possible pathogen in humans, but unknown at this stage. A possible gut commensal.
