Overview

  • Helicobacter fennelliae, (aka Campylobacter fennelliae), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, microaerophilic, motile, helical-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 37-38%. Helicobacter fennelliae is probably a rare gut coloniser. (TrivettMoore1997; On2005Bergey; Vandamme1991a; On2005Bergey; Totten1985)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces (CCUG) and clinical sources. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. Is a rare opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal. Robust growth can have negative consequences for gut health.
