Overview

  • Kingella kingae, (aka Moraxella kingii), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, non-motile, coccobacillus bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 44.5%. Kingella kingae is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Henriksen1976; Henriksen1968)

  • This organism has been recovered from nasopharynx and clinical sources (blood, joint, bone legion). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. Can cause opportunistic infections, particularly in immunocompromised people. A possible gut commensal.
