Overview

  • Kurthia zopfii is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, aerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. The DNA G+C content is 36-38%. Kurthia zopfii is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Shaw1983; Pukall2011Bergey)

  • This organism has been recovered from animal faeces, human faeces (Bilen2018e), fresh water and meat. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). Can cause opportunistic infections, particularly in immunocompromised people. A possible gut commensal.
