Overview

  • Kytococcus schroeteri is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, aerobic, non-motile, coccus bacterium. It has been detected in at least 3 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. Kytococcus schroeteri is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Becker2002)

  • This organism has been recovered from clinical sources (blood, wound, abdominal fluid - CCUG) and human faeces. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
