Overview

  • Leptospira interrogans is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, microaerophilic, motile, helical-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 35%. Leptospira interrogans is unlikely to be a gut coloniser. (Faine1982)

  • This organism has been recovered from kidneys. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread (notes: zoonotic pathogen). Is a known human pathogen. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Consumes no carbohydrates or amino acids, just lipids.
