Overview

  • Loigolactobacillus coryniformis, (aka Lactobacillus coryniformis), is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, coccus bacterium. It has been detected in at least 7 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 45%. Loigolactobacillus coryniformis is probably a common, although minor, coloniser of the gut. (Hammes2011gBergey; Rossi2016)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces, silage, bovine faeces and sewage. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.
