Overview

  • Mammaliicoccus lentus, (aka Staphylococcus lentus), is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, coccus bacterium. It has been detected in at least 4 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 29.8-34.2%. Mammaliicoccus lentus is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Kloos1976; Madhaiyan2020; Schleifer1983)

  • This organism has been recovered from the skin and udders of goats and sheep. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. A possible gut commensal.
