Overview

  • Massilia haematophila, (aka Naxibacter haematophilus), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. Massilia haematophila is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Kampfer2011; Kampfer2008)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces and clinical sources (blood - CCUG). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). Is a rare opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
