Overview

  • Megasphaera massiliensis is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, coccobacillus bacterium. It has been detected in at least 4 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 50.2%. Megasphaera massiliensis is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Padmanabhan2013)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces (HIV patient - Padmanabhan2013). Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. A possible gut commensal.
