Overview

  • Methanosphaera stadtmanae, (aka Methanosphaera stadtmaniae), is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, coccus bacterium. It has been detected in at least 10 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 25.8%. Methanosphaera stadtmanae is probably a common, although minor, coloniser of the gut. (Miller1985)

  • This organism has been recovered from human large intestine (Miller1985). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. A possible gut commensal.
