Overview


  • Mycobacteroides abscessus subsp. bolletii, (aka Mycobacterium bolletii), is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. Mycobacteroides abscessus subsp. bolletii is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Adekambi2006)



  • This organism has been recovered from sputum and stomach aspirate. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. Is a known human pathogen. A possible gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Associated with chronic pneumonia. Multidrug-resistant species. Pathogenic; unlikely to be a coloniser in a healthy microbiome.
