Overview

  • Neisseria perflava is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, non-motile, diplococci bacterium. It has been detected in at least 4 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. Neisseria perflava is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Barrett1994)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces and clinical sources (blood, wound, sputum - CCUG). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
