Overview

  • Neisseria sicca is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, microaerophilic, non-motile, diplococci bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 49-51.5%. Neisseria sicca is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Tonjum2005Bergey)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces and clinical sources (blood, nasopharynx, sputum - CCUG).. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
