Overview

  • Oleidesulfovibrio alaskensis, (aka Desulfovibrio alaskensis), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, motile, vibrio bacterium. It has been detected in at least 3 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 64.1%. Oleidesulfovibrio alaskensis is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Feio2004)

  • This organism has been recovered from oilfields, Alaska, United States. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. A possible gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Can use sulfate, thiosulfate and sulfite to oxidise organic acids and alcohols.
