Overview

  • Oligella urethralis, (aka Moraxella urethralis), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, variably-motile, short rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 47%. Oligella urethralis is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Rossau1987)

  • This organism has been recovered from the urinary tract and ear. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: human and animal pathogen; opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
