Overview

  • Paraburkholderia fungorum, (aka Burkholderia fungorum), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 62%. Paraburkholderia fungorum is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Sawana2014; Coenye2001)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces, clinical samples (lung, cerebrospinal fluid - CCUG) and fungi. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
