Overview

  • Pectobacterium wasabiae, (aka Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. wasabiae), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 51.4-51.7%. Pectobacterium wasabiae is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Gardan2003; Hauben1998)

  • This organism has been recovered from rotting horseradish, Japan. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: plant pathogen). Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Low optimum temperatures (27-30C) and inability to grow at 37C makes this an unlikely gut coloniser.
