Overview

  • Prevotella maculosa is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 48%. Prevotella maculosa is probably a rare gut coloniser.

  • This organism has been recovered from the oral cavity. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). Could be a possible pathogen in humans, but unknown at this stage. A possible gut commensal.
