Overview

  • Pseudomonas fluorescens is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 4 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 59-61%. Pseudomonas fluorescens is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Elomari1997a; Palleroni2005bBergey)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces, clinical sources (sputum, blood - CCUG), soil, water and spoilt food. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients, invertebrate pathogen). Could be a possible pathogen in humans, but unknown at this stage. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.
