Overview

  • Pseudonocardia dioxanivorans is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, strictly aerobic, non-motile, filamentous bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 74%. Pseudonocardia dioxanivorans is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Mahendra2005)

  • This organism has been recovered from a 1,4-dioxane-contaminated site, USA. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Can degrade 1,4-dioxane, THF, tetrahydropyran, 1,3-dioxane, methyl t-butyl ether and diethyl ether. Strict aerobe so unlikely to be a gut coloniser.
