Overview

  • Psychrobacter faecalis is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. Psychrobacter faecalis is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Kampfer2002; Deschaght2012)

  • This organism has been recovered from pigeon faeces, clinical sources (blood, wound, bone - CCUG) and has been detected in human faeces (Bilen2018e). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Can cause opportunistic infections, particularly in immunocompromised people. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Low optimum growth temp, so unlikely gut coloniser.
