Overview

  • Ralstonia pickettii Biovar Va-1&2, (aka Burkholderia pickettii), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 5 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 66.2%. Ralstonia pickettii Biovar Va-1&2 is probably a rare gut coloniser. (DeBaere2001; Ralston1973; Yabuuchi2005Bergey; Yabuuchi1992)

  • This organism has been recovered from the small intestine (28-yr-old female - CCUG) and clinical sources (trachea, crebrospinal fluid, blood - CCUG). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
