Overview

  • Rhodothermus marinus is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly aerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 2 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 64%. Rhodothermus marinus is unlikely to be a gut coloniser. (Park2019a; Sako1996; Alfredsson1988)

  • This organism has been recovered from submarine hot springs, Iceland. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • High minimum growth temperature (55C) and strict aerobic nature suggests this organism is likely a gut non-coloniser.
