Overview

  • Selenomonas noxia is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped - curved bacterium. It has been detected in at least 4 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 56-58%. Selenomonas noxia is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Shouche2011Bergey; moore1987)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces and gingival crevices. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. It is an opportunistic pathogen. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.
