Overview

  • Staphylococcus pettenkoferi is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, coccus bacterium. It has been detected in at least 3 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. Staphylococcus pettenkoferi is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Truelzsch2002; Truelzsch2007)

  • This organism has been recovered from clinical sources (blood) and human faeces. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 2, i.e., risk of individual infection, but low risk of spread. Could be a possible pathogen in humans, but unknown at this stage. Is a known gut commensal.
