Overview

  • Syntrophobotulus glycolicus is a Gram-negative, spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped - curved bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 46.7%. Syntrophobotulus glycolicus is likely to be transient and not a long-term gut coloniser. (Friedrich1996)

  • This organism has been recovered from sewage sludge and anoxic freshwater sediments. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Glyoxylate is fermentatively oxidised. Borderline cold mesophile, with optimum growth temp of 28C. Unlikely gut coloniser.
