Overview

  • Thermolithobacter ferrireducens is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, strictly anaerobic, motile, short rod-shaped bacterium. The DNA G+C content is 52-53%. Thermolithobacter ferrireducens is unlikely to be a gut coloniser. (Sokolova2007)

  • This organism has been recovered from hot spring outflow, Yellowstone National Park, USA. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Reduces Fe(III). Non-coloniser due to very high minimum growth temperature.
