Overview

  • Weeksella virosa is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 37.3%. Weeksella virosa is probably a rare gut coloniser. (Zhang2014)

  • This organism has been recovered from clinical specimens (UTI, rectal swab, vagina). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). It is an opportunistic pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
