Overview

  • Weissella confusa, (aka Lactobacillus confusus), is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 9 gut microbiome compilation studies or metastudies. The DNA G+C content is 45-47%. Weissella confusa is probably a common, although minor, coloniser of the gut. (Bjoerkroth2002; Collins1993a; Bjorkroth2011Bergey; Terekhov2018)

  • This organism has been recovered from human faeces, fermented food, and clinical sources (gall, blood, drainage - CCUG). The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread (notes: human and animal pathogen; opportunistic in immunocompromised patients). Is a known human pathogen. A possible gut commensal.
