Overview

  • Yangia pacifica, (aka Salipiger pacificus), is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, strictly aerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium. It has been detected in at least 1 gut microbiome compilation study or metastudy. The DNA G+C content is 63.3%. Yangia pacifica is unlikely to be a gut coloniser. (Dai2006)

  • This organism has been recovered from coastal sediment, China. The risk classification (www.baua.de) for this organism is 1, i.e., low risk of infection and spread. Pathogenicity status unknown, or very unlikely to be pathogenic. Likely to be transient and not a long-term gut commensal.

  • QUIRKS
  • Obligate aerobe and high salt required for optimum growth, so likely a gut non-coloniser.

  • GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS (Dai2006);
    Character Response
  • Substrates hydrolysed or digested:
  • urea;
  • 🧂
  • Salt tolerance:
  • doesn't tolerate 0% salt; tolerates 10% salt; Grows optimally with 5% salt.
  • pH
  • Acidity tolerance:
  • tolerates pH 5.0; tolerates pH 10; Grows optimally at pH 7.5.
  • 🌡
  • Temperature tolerance:
  • grows at 22℃; grows at 40℃; Grows optimally at 37℃.
  • Substrates assimilated or utilised:
  • maltose; arginine; glutamate; lactate; malate; glutamine;
  • Active enzymes:
  • catalase; urease;

  • SPECIAL FEATURES (Dai2006);
    Character Response
  • Metabolites not produced:
  • indole;
  • Methyl red test:
  • not active
  • VP test:
  • not active
  • Nitrate:
  • not reduced
